UPDATE: Dog Run

Work has started on the dog run!

Kona, the canine reporter

Kona here, reporting to you live at the East River Esplanade’s New Wave Pier.  It looks like work has started for neighborhood’s first dog run!

New Wave Pier (East River Esplanade)

Location: FDR Dr. bet. E. 36 St. and E. 41 St. Manhattan

Opening date: aiming for an opening before Thanksgiving weekend

Kona reporting at the construction site

Signs are up to indicate the area is closed off to the public, while the contractors work on the initial phase of the installation.

Today’s progress is great!  Here I am, standing by the first poles installed on the north-side meant for the small dog run area.  I can’t wait!

It should come up quickly.  There’s plans for an opening ceremony, so keep an eye out for any updates.  We’re also thinking about ideas to personalize and spruce it up (ie: painting).

What are your thoughts?

This is Kona, signing off!

How excited are you for a dog run?

We took a poll and you guys have some amazing comments! Thanks for all you support!

Yes please!

This is a fantastic idea! I don’t have a dog, but there are so many dogs in the neighborhood and the owners have no where to exercise and socialize them. That’s why they create so many problems in our other parks. Let’s give them a proper place to hang out!

The neighborhood would greatly benefit from a dog run.

Can’t wait to bring my dog to the park!

The neighborhood needs this!

A dog run is much needed in our neighborhood!

I support the dog run wholeheartedly!!!

Please let us have a dog park. It’s really difficult without it.

I want a dog run!

It would be amazing to have a space we’re my puppy can run free

We need multiple dog runs as close to (or inside of) St. Vartans Park as possible. This one would be a great start!

Please please lets get the dog run… it’ll be so good for all the dog owners (including me) in the area – I’ve been here for years and have really seen the number of dogs in the area increase tremendously. So a dog run in the area will be great
Thank you in advance

Woof! Woof! Woof! Woof!
