Progress Report: Dog Run

East River Esplanade

Hope you had a lovely summer. Here’s the latest on our community’s first dog run: it’s coming!

A high-level snapshot of what happened over the summer:

  • Alliance for Kips Bay has installed two lockable sheds at the site
  • The city council has approved of the funding
  • NYC Parks has ordered materials
  • The Midtown Gazette wrote a story about our upcoming dog run!

So what’s next?

So when is it coming?

We’re estimating an opening around Thanksgiving. Here’s a high-level outline of what’s involved:

  • Building materials arrive in a month
    • Materials arrive at a holding facility
    • All the materials and components are verified and accounted for
  • A job is scheduled for installation
    • Materials are moved to the job site
    • Installation work is scheduled
      • Building takes a week or so
  • NYC Parks adds additional features
    • Benches and trash cans are added

It’s all coming together, but you can see where delays can happen, from missing parts, shipping delays, weather, and other unforeseen events. But cheer up, it’s in motion

Where can I help?

For now, we’ll have to wait till the dog run is installed. So please be patient. Meanwhile:

For those who are catching up to the details, here are some previously posts:

The site of the new dog run

The dog run will be on NYC Parks property.  They will be building the dog run.

  • They will be building out the fencing/gates for a dog run & small dog run and signage
  • They will be providing benches and trash cans
    • They will help with the changing of the trash cans
Two lockable sheds at the site

But some of the additional details about the site:

  • (2) lockable sheds and are at the site now
    • A tall shed, housing a hand-truck
    • Job-site shed to hold equipment and supplies
    • We plan on using these to store tools for both the dog run and Glick Park’s gardening
  • Water
    • There is no running water
    • We are acquiring rain barrels from the ESCR, but will need more
  • Electricity
    • There is no electrical run

We expect an update from the NYC Parks on the material delivery, which should help firm up the Go Live date.

Go Live: Grand Opening Event

We are post-poning a Go Live date for the new dog run. It doesn’t mean we can’t use the dog run, just means we’ll have to put a hold on the celebrations. Important thing is, the dog run is coming!

Thank you for your time.

Oh, and don’t forget to thank
